Competent and satisfied employees achieve set goals
Elenia engages in systematic long-term competence development in line with its strategy. In addition to internal and external training programmes, its competence development methods include learning at work. Employees are encouraged to improve their knowledge and skills and make active use of career opportunities.
An extensive training programme for distribution employees was launched in the autumn of 2012. In addition to coaching for supervisors, the programme included strategy training for employees. The programme was completed in the autumn of 2013. In customer service, an extensive training programme for customer service representatives, experts and supervisors was launched in the autumn of 2012. The programme focused on the development of telephone services and collaboration skills. In its heating business, Elenia continued to provide training for supervisors and employees working with customers.
In the spring of 2013, Elenia carried out an employee survey in collaboration with a new external partner. The results were discussed with employees, who also participated in planning improvements.
At the beginning of 2013, Elenia implemented a new human resource and financial management system. All employees familiarised themselves with the system during the spring.
Performance assessment discussions ensure competence
Annual goal-setting and performance assessment discussions serve to ensure that employees have clear responsibilities and goals as well as the competence to succeed. Personal goals are based on team and company goals and determined with the supervisor as part of an annual performance agreement prepared at the beginning of the year. Success is evaluated in two follow-up discussions, which also address competence development over the short and long term.
Everyone is responsible for well-being at work
Well-being at work and occupational safety are integral to Elenia’s corporate culture. All employees are responsible for well-being at work. The diverse range of measures to ensure well-being at work aims for a smooth flow of work and the acknowledgement of its importance, a well-functioning workplace community and the maintenance and promotion of functional capacity throughout a career.
Occupational health care at Elenia aims to maintain a safe and healthy work environment and facilitate employees’ work ability and functional capacity. Occupational health care at Elenia exceeds statutory requirements, and services are offered in each location.
In addition, Elenia provides its employees with general information on topical occupational safety and environmental issues and an opportunity to participate in training that facilitates their professional skills and competence. All employees are required to successfully complete Occupational Safety Card training and ensure that their statutory qualifications are up to date. Compliance with regulations is monitored annually. Elenia has an OHSAS 18001 occupational health and safety management system in place.
In 2013, Elenia launched a comprehensive and interactive concept for well-being at work. Its focus areas include health, appreciation, a healthy workplace community, inspiration and competence.
Elenia continued to implement the project offering fitness walking campaigns, neck and shoulder exercise groups, weight loss programmes and other activities related to well-being and coping at work. In addition, Elenia organised a running school and team games to improve its employees’ physical condition.
Recreational activities organised by employees included exercise and cultural activities in different locations. Elenia also held a competition for employees to generate ideas to improve well-being at work. As a result, all employees in all locations were provided with exercise sticks for office workouts. In collaboration with HOPE, the company organised a clothes and goods collection for disadvantaged families.
With the help of support services, Elenia’s distribution business became a non-smoking workplace in the autumn.
